Grids for Hoogheemraadschap 'sustainable office'

August 2011 – The Hoogheemraadschap Hollands Noorderkwartier district water board has built a new HQ in Heerhugowaard. Five departments with separate buildings will now be consolidated in a single place. One of the most important considerations during construction was the sustainability of the materials and systems used. Sustainable materials were also used outside the building. The terrace, the footbridge over the pond and the cycle bridge all use Staco galvanized RV decking.

The design for the new office block symbolically highlights the role of water for the authority: protecting inhabitants from flooding, providing them with enough clean surface water, and administering and maintaining minor roads. One of the most important considerations during construction was the sustainability of the materials and systems used. For instance, there will be an energy-efficient climate-control system, water storage under the car park, a water-recycling system on the roof, a purifying reed filter and bamboo. Sustainable materials were also used outside the building. The terrace, the footbridge over the pond and the cycle bridge all use Staco galvanized RV decking. Staco Nederland supplied the hot-dip galvanized RV steel decking to Wijma Kampen, a supplier of sustainable wood. Wijma fitted the steel grids with FSC-certified hardwood and fitted them in Heerhugowaard. Employees of Hoogheemraadschap Hollands Noorderkwartier can now enjoy a sustainable office with sustainable surroundings.
